As fascinating as the life of Malcolm X is, I didn’t enjoy this book. I feel I would enjoy a biography of him better. His telling of his life was simply too filled with his own prejudices, which changed at various times throughout the book. He was an angry man, and it really comes through in this book. Yes, he had every right to be angry, but that doesn’t mean his autobiography should have been written with so much of his beliefs. At times he completely left the story of his life and gave long winded speeches lecturing the reader. Sections could have been removed to make pamphlets of his various beliefs. That’s not an exaggeration. As literature, it was eh. As history, it provided some good perspectives on different events. As an autobiography, it didn’t stick to actual events enough.
